Day 15 - July 25: Versailles

Today, we traveled to Versailles (along with the rest of the tourists in the country).  The palace is located on the Western edge of the suburbs of Paris, so we were able to get there by train.  We arrived and waited in line for about an hour to get into the palace.

Snapped this when we were finally coming to the entrance!

Inside the gates!

This is the chapel where the king had services.

A long hall that was strangely deserted for this picture.
The statues are of former kings and leaders of France.

A view of another wing of the palace from a window.

This is the Hall of Mirrors, probably most well known.  It was so incredibly crowded and hot because barely any windows were open.  It was lovely outside, so we started getting anxious to start our tour of the gardens.

This pair of high-heels is made out of cooking pots and lids.  Can you see them?  The sculpture is made in honor of Marilyn Monroe.

Finally out into the fresh air!

And nap time! (for me)

Self-portrait time for Tim.  So serious.

After finding some good ice cream, we walked in the direction of the Petit and Grand Trianons, 'smaller' palaces than the main one.  Marie-Antionette's estate was behind them and she resided in the Petit Trianon for some time.  We toured this one, then ventured outside again.

And we happened upon Marie-Antionette's Hamlet, little farm village.  It was so quaint, quiet, and lovely that it quickly became our favorite part of Versailles.

We were a little lost after touring the Hamlet, but we tried to find our way to the Grand Trianon through gardens and fields.

Et viola!  Le Grand Trianon!

Closing time for the Trianon fast approaching, we take a few timed shots (this is one of many).

Some scenery we saw on the way through the gardens back to town.  Beautiful!

Tim really wanted me to pose like a statue and thought this one was perfect!  I don't remember what she was actually holding, but it probably wasn't as cool as my Nalgene water bottle.

Statue of Louis XVI - outside Versailles.

After our long day in Versailles, we ate a mediocre dinner in town and then headed back to Montmartre.  We were tres fatigues!
